As I sit here sipping my homemade latte in these early hours of 2015, I can’t help but feel incredibly encouraged and hopeful at what this year has in store. I have always loved a fresh start; whether it is found in a birthday, a new school year, layered in a change of the seasons, or of course, all wrapped up in a brand New Year. I wasn’t planning on writing a post this morning, but sometimes it’s funny what God lays on your heart when you’re least expecting it.
I began studying my She Reads Truth devotionals this morning, which covers the book of John this month, and I couldn’t help but feel motivated to write after reading the very first verse shared in the post.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. – John 1:1-2, ESV
There isn’t much more I love than being given a blank space and filling that void with words and thoughts. The Bible is undoubtedly the ultimate Word, but I think we all have the ability to share our hopes, dreams and experiences through a keyboard or with a pen and paper, or if you’re less of a writer and more of a talker, through conversation and speech. I think it is easy to get caught up in finishing a post, or writing another page to simply be done, but what I need to remember is that writing is just like life – it’s a journey and a process. There is an introduction and a beginning, there is a cast of characters, a plot, a change of plot, another change of plot (that you maybe didn’t see coming!), highs and lows, there are times you root for the main character or cry right along side them, there is a twist of emotions, and there is even an ending that is hopefully happy and somewhere very far down the road. I want my life to be like a good book that can’t be put down, that fascinates a reader and has them rooting for the main character all the way to the end of the novel life.
In 2015, I want to write, share and document as much as I can, whether that is here on the blog, in my own journals, or in projects I’ve only dreamed of bringing to life up to this point. I want to share these words often as the ability to write, and analyze, and seek the truth really are opportunities from God that we have all been given. True, some are good and are loved to be remembered while some are bad and we wish to forget, but all are lessons to be learned and to help us to grow and become better, stronger individuals. I want to live 2015 with purpose and intent, constantly adding to my story in the most productive way while focusing on the truly important aspects. I want my life to be one that I don’t simply sail through, but one that is instead presented with challenges and changes, always keeping the story entertaining and enthralling. Each year is like a new chapter, and here we are today, on page one.
- How are you going to write your story in 2015? What would you like this chapter to say when 2015 comes to a close in 365 days?
Let’s make this year the best one yet! Happy New Year’s friends!
